1. The in-house restaurant is superb, the staff are very accomodating and fluent in English, everything is spotless, and the design throughout is of the highest North Italian style.

2. This is a clean and comfortable hotel. The staff were helpful, the breakfast was good and the rooms were air conditioned. The hotel is around 20 minutes' walk both from the train/bus station and from the city centre. For those attending during the opera season there is a a free coach service to and from the city centre. In terms of its immediate surroundings, the hotel is not ideal: there are no restaurants nearby (although there is one in the hotel itself) but there is a bar just a short way up the road. I could not find any shops in the locality either. Apart from its slightly bleak (but not threatening or dangerous) location, the main problem with this hotel is the poor soundproofing in the walls between the bedrooms. All in all though, I enjoyed my time at the Porta Palio and considered it reasonable value for money.
