1. The Apa Kyoto-Gion Hotel is in possibly the best part of Kyoto, downtown. It is close to many temples and historic areas even a 2 minute walk will take you to Geisha land. Getting there is a little tricky for a first journey in Kyoto if you are travelling by train as you will need to buy a transfer ticket from the JR Nara Line to the Keihan line. Take the JR Nara line bound for Uji to Tofokuji follow the signs in the station for the Keihan Line and take a local or sub express train to Schijo. For the less adventurous get a taxi for 1200Yen and sit back and let the driver do the work. The hotel is a little worn but that is nothing to worry about - it is clean friendly and in a great place. We would not hesitate to go there again.
